Advanced Routing Engine

While most routing solutions in the market are used in location-based navigation, Skymantics’ Universal Routing Engine (SURE) addresses a gap in strategic route planning. Thanks to emerging capabilities in geospatial data interoperability and Machine Learning, decision-making in route design and planning can now be automated and customized for specific applications such as mobility, logistics, and disaster response.

A universal tool for route network planning

If you are in charge of planning a network of routes for mobility, logistics, or emergency management, you likely face the challenge of acquiring a picture of an entire geography with a transportation network connecting multiple Origin-Destination (OD) pairs. The complexity of making decisions such as building roads, changing traffic patterns, or setting up intermediary hubs, is compounded by road or vehicle constraints, road blockages due to incidents, or traffic congestion patterns. All this is added to the difficulty of integrating geospatial data from different sources.

SURE can consume source maps and external data (e.g., Earth Observation or sensor), build route graphs with constraint criteria, and apply a variety of algorithms to solve customized route planning problems. Currently, SURE:

Is built on Open Source pgRouting/pygeoapi stack

Consumes OpenStreetMap, NSG, and HERE routes, plus custom road datasets

Consumes GTFS public transport data on stop location and route schedules

Supports multimodal transport calculations

Configures geospatial constraints in road segments (vehicle size/weight, obstacles, departure/arrival times, road blockades)

Uses Machine Learning to infer speed limits, average speed, congestion and delays based on traffic signals, rules, and expected traffic volumes
